Saturday: Harriers v Southport
admin
HARRIERS host Southport at Aggborough in National League North on Saturday.
It's the first time since January 17th the Reds have had the chance to play a Saturday league fixture on their own turf, that wait coming to an end against a Southport side boosted by a point at home in midweek.
They pushed promotion chasing Buxton all the way and earned a share of the spoils after a 0-0 draw that they went close to turning into a victory.
That result follows a trend of sorts - though the Sandgrounders are fighting to keep clear of the bottom four, they far from make up the numbers, having held Darlington in recent weeks and secured a 1-0 win over Merthyr Town.
It's not just the teams in the play-off chase being caused problems by Southport; they walloped Hereford 5-1 in their game before last. Striker Jordan Slew bagged a brace, as he did in this season's return fixture against Harriers when Southport came from 2-0 down to draw 2-2.
Added to that, Southport are, like Harriers, quarter-finalists in the FA Trophy. They knocked out AFC Fylde on their own patch in the Fifth Round and will host National League Yeovil in next weekend's quarter-finals as a reward.
The task and challenge at hand for the Reds on Saturday is clear, then, as Harriers meet one of their most-met rivals at Aggborough. Saturday's clash is the 47th competitive meeting between the two.
Adam Murray spoke about the visitors, as well as the current mood in the camp and possible incomings.

RESPECT & SUPPORT BALL RETRIEVERS
Ball retrievers, often young people, carry out a vital part of the Aggborough match day.
But did you know, it is NOT their job to ensure play continues quickly by passing the ball to players?
A ball retriever's job is simple - their instructions are to retrieve balls that have left the field of play and to place them back on cones at pitch side. Players, not retrievers, collect the ball from the cone.
Our young ball retrievers are following official rules - please show them the respect and encouragement they deserve.
